Down by the Bay

Completed alongside an extensive rebuild of the home by Mint Construction, Down by the Bay gave us the opportunity to construct the surrounding landscape from the ground up, creating a complete outdoor environment across both the front and backyard.

In the backyard, two distinct outdoor living areas were created for different ways of using the property. A lower paving stone patio is centred around a fire table and sectional, creating a comfortable space to relax and gather. Closer to the home, a raised paving stone patio provides a dedicated outdoor dining area and a natural transition from the house into the landscape.

Lush garden beds surround the outdoor living areas, softening the hardscape and creating a layered, established feel throughout the property. Artificial turf provides clean, low maintenance lawn areas, while large granite boulders were incorporated as feature elements, adding natural texture and character among the planting.

At the front of the property, a new paving stone driveway creates a clean and durable entrance to the home. New fencing was also constructed to provide privacy and help define the property.

At the front of the property, a large Barkman 12×24 paving stone driveway leads into the landscape, with retaining walls, natural stone, lush planting and a single 12 foot natural stone tread creating a substantial entrance to the home. A rooftop green roof adds another landscaped element to the property.

Coastal Shores also installed the complete irrigation and landscape lighting systems throughout the property. The irrigation supports the extensive planting while the lighting brings the landscape to life after dark, highlighting key architectural, planting and outdoor living features throughout the home.

Construction presented significant challenges due to the property’s changing grades, elevations and complex foundation angles. Careful layout and coordination were required throughout the build to ensure the hardscape, structures, gardens and finished elevations all came together properly.

Coastal Shores installed the complete irrigation and landscape lighting systems throughout the property. The irrigation supports the extensive planting, while the landscape lighting highlights the gardens, granite boulders and outdoor living areas after dark.

Construction required careful planning due to the tight access of the Boundary Bay property. Excavation, material movement and installation had to be coordinated within a confined site while constructing the different elevations, hardscape areas and gardens throughout the landscape.

The result is a complete outdoor environment that brings together outdoor living, lush planting, paving stones, artificial turf, natural stone, lighting and privacy while complementing the rebuilt home and its Boundary Bay setting.
