The Stevens Residence
Tsawwassen, BC
Built alongside a new custom home, The Stevens Residence gave us the opportunity to construct the landscape from the ground up, creating an outdoor environment that feels like a natural extension of the home.

The homeowners wanted beautiful, lush gardens without creating a property that demanded constant maintenance. The landscape was designed to balance greenery and privacy with durable hardscaping and comfortable outdoor living spaces throughout the property.

In the backyard, we constructed a composite deck and pergola centred around a Solus fire bowl, creating a comfortable space for entertaining and relaxing. Artificial turf provides a clean, low maintenance lawn, while a private flagstone Zen garden off the primary bedroom is surrounded by large Portuguese laurels to create a quiet, secluded retreat. Lush gardens and a gurgling rock water feature bring movement and sound into the landscape.

Around the pool, large format 24×36 NewStone slabs were installed for the pool deck and coping, complemented by raised planting areas designed to provide additional privacy. A composite fence encloses the pool area, while paving stone walkways connect the different outdoor spaces.

At the front of the property, a large Barkman 12×24 paving stone driveway leads into the landscape, with retaining walls, natural stone, lush planting and a single 12 foot natural stone tread creating a substantial entrance to the home. A rooftop green roof adds another landscaped element to the property.

Coastal Shores also installed the complete irrigation and landscape lighting systems throughout the property. The irrigation supports the extensive planting while the lighting brings the landscape to life after dark, highlighting key architectural, planting and outdoor living features throughout the home.

Construction presented significant challenges due to the property’s changing grades, elevations and complex foundation angles. Careful layout and coordination were required throughout the build to ensure the hardscape, structures, gardens and finished elevations all came together properly.
